When You Should Seek
Professional Help

Childhood is a period marked by rapid growth and numerous challenges, and it's not always clear when to seek professional help. Similarly, adults may also face significant mental health challenges such as depression and anxiety. At Pace Child and Family Wellness Centre, we are dedicated to supporting both children and adults. Whether it's behavioural issues, emotional struggles, developmental delays in children, or mental health concerns in adults, our team is here to help. We provide thorough assessments and collaborate with families and individuals to develop individualized plans that cater to each person's unique needs. Our goal is fostering the development and well-being of individuals of all ages.

ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) extends far beyond classroom challenges, affecting many areas of a child’s life. Children and young adults with ADHD may struggle with emotional regulation, sustaining attention, and managing impulsive behaviours, impacting their social interactions and daily activities. At Pace Child and Family Wellness Centre, we provide a comprehensive approach to ADHD management. Our multidisciplinary team, including counsellors and behaviour therapists, works together to offer holistic support. We aim to improve family understanding of ADHD and develop practical strategies to foster positive habits and enhance overall well-being.

ANXIETY

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health issues among both children and adults. While some anxiety is a normal part of life, excessive and persistent anxiety can interfere with daily functioning and indicate an anxiety disorder. Types of anxiety disorders include:

AUTISM

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex and lifelong neurodevelopmental disorder that affects social interaction, communication, behaviour, and sensory processing. It is called a “spectrum” disorder because it manifests in a wide range of symptoms, behaviours, and severity levels, with each affected individual being unique. Autism awareness and understanding are essential for creating inclusive and supportive environments for individuals with ASD, allowing them to thrive and reach their full potential.

DEPRESSION

Depression can affect individuals at any age, impacting children, adolescents, and adults, but it may manifest differently across different life stages. It’s essential for parents, caregivers, educators, and adults themselves to be aware of potential signs and symptoms of depression so they can provide appropriate support and seek professional help when needed. While children may not always express their feelings of depression verbally, making it crucial to observe changes in their behaviour and emotions, adults might experience persistent sadness, loss of interest in activities, or physical symptoms like fatigue and changes in sleep patterns. It’s important to note that not everyone with depression will exhibit all of these symptoms, and the severity can vary. Additionally, some individuals may mask their feelings, making it challenging to recognize depression.

MOTOR SKILL

Motor skills issues in neurodivergent children refer to challenges related to the development and coordination of physical movements. Neurodivergent children encompass a wide range of conditions, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and developmental coordination disorder (DCD), among others. These challenges can impact various aspects of a child’s life and development, and understanding them is crucial for providing effective support and intervention.

SPEECH DELAYS

Speech is a fundamental cornerstone of human existence, commencing its development in the earliest years of childhood. A multitude of factors can influence a child’s capacity for effective communication, spanning physical challenges, hearing impediments, language delays, and cognitive complexities. At Pace Child and Family Wellness Centre, we specialize in delivering evidence-based speech-language pathology programs, renowned for their efficacy in addressing speech and language-related concerns.
